Finally some excitement. I also like how Jagr himself is only looking for 1 year because you know Lou loves to give old guys a year or two more then they need

Could we possibly have a Henrique signing shortly after this deal is made official? I cant see what else could hold it up once this is finalized.

Hope it happens. Not completely sold on Brunner being a fit here even though i want him. Truly haven't seen enough of him but I have seen plenty of Jagr. I still like what he brings and would welcome him in.

I don't mind it if anything it brings one more thing other teams have to worry about and focus on when he is on the ice. With none of our players likely to be double covered I think a lot of guys get a lot more chances and see better stats then last season.

No one runs a PP better from the sideboard then Jagr. He will no doubt help the horrendous abomination that we call a PP.

Not psyched to sign somebody that old, but it makes a lot of sense in the short term. Rather than attempting to replace Kovy from a dwindling pool of options, bringing Jagr in for a year (man, i really hope it's only a year) will give the Devils a chance to make moves in the future.

Also, Jagr and Brodeur are the only two players left from the 1990 draft, so it seems fitting.

Meh. Why not? We're not gunna make a run at the cup this year so I'd rather throw him out there as a bridge so Boucher and Matteau aren't rushed ahead of their schedule.

Also, everyone calm down with the whole, "The stars traded him at the deadline last year and got a 2nd rounder and 2 prospects so we could do the same thing" argument.

First, Jagr's value has dropped significantly with another year of age on his body

Second, Lou isn't a big "throw in the towel" midway through the season type of GM

Lou must be the high bidder.
Only thing you have to be concerned about is his durability.
Can he maintain his level of play for 82+ games?

Just a reminder that Jagr did have 10 assists in last year's playoffs, and it's not uncommon for players to go through goal droughts in the playoffs. The D is tighter and the goalies are that much more focused. I thought personally that he was a factor in the playoffs.

I think the guy still has enough in the tank to help us. I hope it's a one-year deal or a relatively inexpensive two-year deal at worst. But I am hoping it's a one-year deal. Also I'd bet that he will have excellent chemistry with Elias.

I'm pleased. As it turns out this probably couldn't have worked out better. We're rid of the commitment to Kovalchuk and now we have the hope to be competitive again both in the short term and particularly the long term. Subtract Clarkson and Kovy...add Jagr, Clowe and Ryder. That looks like more goals to me this year. And we may not be done maneuvering. AND we'll probably have more offense from the D if we integrate one of the young players.

I thought Jagr looked a lot better than his stats showed. Yes his skating doesn't look that great, but he was getting pucks to guys accross the ice on a fairly consistent basis which was leading to a lot of chances.

Agreed. I also remember him hitting the post a few times. Seemed like he was a bit snakebitten in terms of finding the net, but still was effective.

I always get a laugh when a team who hasn't won a cup and doesnt look to be contenders for at least a few more seasons from a owner who named the team/city hockey heaven tries to chirp a successful team

but didnt you say before that youd rather get a top pick than be in the finals and lose let alone playoffs

I feel bad for you
